And then there were eight; The MLS Cup Playoffs

As four playoff matches approach this Sunday, we are here to get you excited about the players ready to compete for the MLS Cup.

You can't say enough about Golden Boot winner Josef Martinez and his accomplice Miguel Almiron. Gyasi Zardes put 19 in the goal this season while Bradley Wright-Phillips scored 20. It's not Josef's 31 but it's something.

Meanwhile, NYCFC would be wise to be aware of the threat existing outside of Almiron and Martinez. Julian Gressel had 12 assists this season. That is tied with Nicolas Lodeiro for the highest amount of assists from the regular season, out of players in the post-season. Speaking of whom, Nicolas Lodeiro will be a very dangerous threat to Portland in this installment of the Pacific Northwest rivalry. Lodeiro put up outrageous passing numbers this season. Per game he both averaged three successful crosses, and nearly 4 key passes, both league-leading statistics.

Whichever way you slice it, this will be a playoff picture full of quality. You could find something impressive with just about every player that will contribute this weekend and further into the playoffs. As temperatures cool across the country, feel free to check out some MLS scarves and stay warm for the playoffs.
